Avian Hand Concept

Here is the hand study I did before creating my latest piece “Anthro Blue Heron”.

This was new ground for me so I wasn’t totally sure how to create a working hand for an anthro bird so I created this before starting the project.

It was just one sketchy drawing to start with but I added some more before uploading to make it a bit more useful and informative.

The design itself is based very heavily upon the evolving wings of the bird’s ancient ancestor Archaeopteryx. I find myself digging through the fossil records of animals a lot to find that special pliable bone structure for combining with that of humans. It just goes to show that all the creatures of this earth may be more closely related then we may think.
