Description

Last month in light of Mothers Day, I decided to create a Mothers Day themed piece.

It was also a revisit to an old concept I touched upon a few years ago, a “Changeling” sort of character. I thought such a character would be a great representation of a Mother of nature, or God/Mother of the wilds and the creatures therein.

I also wanted to attempt another entirely Pencil Drawing on the paper I usually use for my colored works, to try to make it work.

I'm happy with the results, though I still question if its considered of the same quality or of equal monetary value to colored works to the art admirer or commissioner. I wonder this in general for all art that is purely pencil work. Is the medium or color as important to the viewer as I assume? Or is it rather the quality and work put into the piece that's really important? Are pencil drawings considered “Incomplete Works” or just classified as “Sketches” by the general populace ?

I question the value one places on Portrait works in general as well. Given my experiences they don't seem to get the same attention as a full body portrayal be it colored or otherwise. Do full body portrayals of characters hold a larger “Wow Factor” for the viewer? Does the viewer assume that it was more difficult to create a full body character rather than just a portrait?Do they think that more work had gone into the creation of the full body piece than a portrait?

Of course, as with all things everyone looks at art differently . I for one, admire art that is believable, as if the creature or character could exist in the real world. That being said, I look for realism, uniqueness, attention to fine details, and meaning in the art I admire, and I try to accomplish such feats in my own works as well.

I feel its important to get to know my audience and those I work for as an artist, in order to better direct myself, and without a professional source to talk to about such things you are the only people I have to look to for such advice. In my opinion, in the end its probably better that way. It prevents me from just becoming another piece of grass in the field, with all the “This should be done this way and you should do this, exactly to make the most profit because it has been proven as the so called best proven approach” losing your originality, personal purpose, and drive as an artist in the process. :)

My babbling aside, I hope you all enjoy this character. I'd be glad to hear your insights into my questions above as well. As always, Thank you.^_^

I like it, but her chest appears a bit off to me. They appear to be angled differently to one-another, her right one lower down than her left. Otherwise it's amazing and perfect.
